Matchplay is one of Sweden's largest match play tournaments for amateurs, played between May and October each year at over 300 different facilities across the country. The tournament is played in pairs, which can be men's, women's or mixed, with one match played approximately every three weeks at either the player's home club or the nearest geographically located club. All teams are guaranteed two matches in the tournament, with losing teams having the opportunity to compete in the Second Chance round to still qualify for the Sweden final and international final.

The matches are played using Matchplay's own digital scorecard, allowing everyone to follow the match live on Matchplay's website. Players do not need to calculate slope, reductions, or any other intermediate scores as the scorecard does it automatically. Additionally, all players in the match can follow the scorecard on their mobile phones, including any extra shots given during the game.
